Future’s “Build a Bitch” Already Has a Music Video in My Head

Every now and then, I’ll hear a song and instantly see the visuals before there’s even a music video.

That’s exactly what happened when I listened to Future’s “Build a Bitch.”

My mind immediately went to The Twilight Zone episode “The After Hours”—my favorite episode of the entire series.

I don’t mean recreating the episode scene for scene. I mean taking the feeling of it.

Imagine a luxury department store after closing. Perfect mannequins lined up under soft lights. Everything is polished, expensive, and almost too perfect. Then, little by little, the mannequins start coming to life—not in a horror-movie way, but in a way that makes you question why they were put on display in the first place.

To me, that’s what makes the connection so interesting.

The mannequins represent perfection. They’re posed, admired, and expected to remain exactly as they are. That symbolism feels like it naturally complements the themes of “Build a Bitch.” It’s fashion, identity, expectations, and performance all wrapped into one visual.

I don’t know if anyone else hears the song this way, but that’s the beauty of music. We all experience it differently. Sometimes a song gives you lyrics. Sometimes it gives you an entire world.

I’ve never creative directed a music video, but I love thinking about visuals, symbolism, and the way music intersects with fashion, art, and culture. It’s one of the reasons I created QuartzGem in the first place.

Whether Future ever explores a concept like this or not, The After Hours is the music video I’ll always see when I hear “Build a Bitch.”
